Whether you are a new iPhone user, or you are moving to Verizon from another network, you'll need to activate your Verizon phone before using it. With these instructions, you can activate your Verizon iPhone today.
STEPS
PART 1 OF 3: BACKUP CONTACTS

BACKUP THE CONTACTS FROM YOUR EXISTING IPHONE (IF YOU HAVE ONE) BEFORE ACTIVATING YOUR NEW IPHONE. If you don't have an existing phone to backup, skip to Part 2.

LAUNCH ITUNES. Wait for the iPhone device to pop up on the iTunes menu.
Make sure you are running the latest version of iTunes before you start. If your system asks you to update, click "Ok."

VERIFY THAT YOUR CONTACTS ARE SET TO SYNC WITH YOUR ITUNES ACCOUNT.

RIGHT CLICK YOUR MOUSE ON YOUR IPHONE DEVICE. Select "Backup."
If you want to backup your contacts on a different type of phone and load them onto your iPhone, you will need to consult your phone owner's manual before you switch wireless providers or phones. Make sure to load all your contacts and voice mail messages before signing up.
Make sure to sync and back up any additional aspects of your iPhone that you want to save to your iPhone once you have activated your new wireless provider. This may include voicemails, music, photos and videos.
PART 2 OF 3: IPHONE ACTIVATION

TURN OFF YOUR OLD PHONE. If you are switching your iPhone to a Verizon account, you may need to use another phone to speak to customer service or a Verizon sales representative.

BUY YOUR NEW PHONE, OR OBTAIN A NEW WIRELESS ACCOUNT WITH VERIZON. Make sure to get a receipt and a customer service phone number that you can call from another phone, in case of problems with setup.

CALL THE ACTIVATION NUMBER. This is essential with many new accounts and with 4G LTE service. Type in your SIM card number when prompted.

TURN ON YOUR NEW PHONE.

PLUG YOUR IPHONE INTO YOUR COMPUTER. Your iPhone should come with a USB charger that can be used for setup and syncing.

WAIT FOR YOUR VERIZON INSTALLATION/ACTIVATION WIZARD TO POP UP. You will need an active wifi connection to do this.

AGREE TO THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS. Click "I accept" to confirm your Verizon user agreement.
PART 3 OF 3: LOAD CONTACTS

CONTINUE WITH THE SETUP WIZARD. You will be asked if you want to sync Contacts from your iTunes account. Click "Yes."

SYNC EACH TYPE OF INFORMATION WITH YOUR NEW DEVICE WHEN PROMPTED. You can also click on the device to load the utilities and sync 1 by 1.

ALLOW YOUR DEVICE TIME TO SYNC THE CONTACTS AND OTHER DATA. Right click and select "Eject" when you are finished.

TRY TO MAKE A CALL USING YOUR VERIZON IPHONE. Your phone should be activated.
Click on the phone icon to set up your voicemail. Click "Set Up Now" when prompted.
